Lone Drake Waterfowl Outfitters - Hunting Reports

Just when you think you've seen it all, Mother Nature really throws a curve at us. When I drove down across NE Arkansas, everything was covered in ice, power lines and transformers were laying on the roads, telephone poles snapped in two by the thousands, and it was virtually impossible to get gas because no one had power. Luckily the sun came out over the weekend and melted all the ice and the warm Southerly breeze brought the geese with it. We've had some excellent hunts, killing between 30 and 90 geese per day. This upcoming week looks to be very promising as they're forecasting warmer weather which should bring more geese into the area. It sure is great to be hunting again. We still have some weekday openings the latter part of February and mid-March for South Dakota.

We just returned from a great 12 days of flooded timber hunting in Arkansas. We hunted Dave Donaldson Black River WMA, Bayou Meto WMA and Cut-off Creek WMA. The down side of the trip is that the duck hunting was fairly slow. Most of the ducks have figured out where the refuges are and are also feeding during the night. But…that’s how things go. Last season at the same time the woods were on fire. Next year... who knows?

We met and hunted with some new great guys. Visited Mack’s Prairie Wings and just saw a lot of the countryside. We are already looking forward to our trip down there at the same time next year.

The snow goose season is only a few weeks away. I am putting the finishing touches on the new decoys and gear. It looks like it is going to be a banner year. As of right now all the weekend days are either booked or on hold for Arkansas. We still have many weekday openings in Arkansas…especially towards the end of Feb.

All of the weekends in SD are booked except for the 20, 21 and 22 of March where we have room for up to 5 guys . We also have room during the week of the 16th and the 23rd. Give me a call or an Email for which days are still open. Should be a fantastic spring season!

The MN duck season is over. I am not sure if I should be happy or sad. We had some excellent hunts throughout Nov. We also a couple of problems. My computer was infected by a virus and I was unable to make any reports the last two weeks of the season. A blown engine on my truck and a lost motor on the bottom of the lake does make for some interesting times. But.....I am already looking forward to next year.

We are going to hunt some honkers one last time this year on the 13th. If things work out...we will have a huge pile. Then a few of us are heading down to Arkansas for 10 days of flooded green timber duck hunting on the 30th of Dec.

The snow goose season is just around the corner and we are already getting the gear ready. The reports from Canada and the Dakotas show an incredible juvy hatch. It will make for some incredible snow goose hunting this spring. We still have some weekends available for both Arkansas and South Dakota.

We've had some good hunts this week. Mostly we've been hitting some up some fields and having pretty good success on both ducks and geese. While the duck numbers are slightly below normal, there are pretty good numbers of geese around. I expect to see an influx of northern birds showing up this week as the cold front moves in.

We had another good week of hunting. Saturday we managed a five man mixed bag limit ducks consisting of gadwall, widgeon, mallards, and Greenwing Teal. In total we took 42 birds for the day, as we also shot 8 mergansers and 4 geese. Sunday was a little slower but turned out to be another good day as we shot 12 ducks in the morning and then the guys had to head home. Bird numbers haven't built up quite as much as I would have hoped but it looks like the weather this week should bring in some more new birds.
