We had another excellent weekend. Winds were mostly out
of the South and a lot of birds moved through the state. We
had our best day so far in South Dakota this year as we killed
90 birds in one spread on Saturday. They are forecasting some
snow but it looks like it's going to be rather light. It may
move some birds back from North Dakota. But, at the least,
it should keep the birds we have around. We still have a couple
openings for the first weekend in April.

It's been an excellent first week in South Dakota. The weather
has been great. A lot of birds have moved into the area and
some have even moved through South Dakota. But huge numbers
of geese still remain. I've noticed more juvies in the last
couple days which always makes for better hunting. So far
we've been killing between 19 and 38 birds per day. To top
off a great hunt, the last bird we shot on Wednesday evening
was a banded Ross Goose. It looks like the hunting should
only improve.

It's been a very hectic but good week. We finished up in
Arkansas very strong. Our last three hunts killed a combined
total of 191 geese including a double banded $50 reward Ross
goose. Then I packed everything up and made the 13 hour drive
home without any incidents. I checked everything over and
headed out to South Dakota two days later. The cold spell
out here moved most of the geese back South. But, the warm
weather today allowed the birds to return and we had a really
good hunt Saturday evening on our 2nd Annual MinnesotaWaterfowler.com
hunt. Some of the guys will probably have pictures posted
on the website on Monday. They're a great group of guys and
they run a great website.

We had a fantastic week of snow goose hunting. We had multiple
days over 60 and one day over 100 geese per spread. Many geese
have moved on as we have been hearing geese honking throughout the
night. But excellent numbers remain and we are planning on stopping
quite a few with some well placed BB's. The only open day we have
in Arkansas right now is Tuesday March 3rd for up to six guys. A few days
are open during the week in South Dakota.

We
had another great week of Snow Goose hunting. Our low day
was 23 and our high day was 84. One thing that's been unusual
this year is that we've had a fairly hard time killing the
singles and doubles. Most of the action has been from really
big flocks of 100 to 2,000 birds. It makes for some exciting
decoy hunting though. Some of the birds have moved out but
new ones are arriving daily. We also had to cancel one hunt
due to heavy rains and severe thunderstorm warnings. It's
just one of those things you can't control and no one ends
up being happy. All we could do is refund their money. We
still have a few weekday openings in both Arkansas and South
Dakota. From the sounds of the weather, we should have another
productive week.

We ended the first week on a really high note. Not only
did we kill our first banded bird of the year, we also had
our first day of over 100 geese, 110 to be exact. There are
still tons of geese in the area. There was a migration on
this Monday morning where we lost some birds, but some new
birds came in also. The weather has been favorable and I have
really high hopes for tomorrow's hunt. Plus, it looks like
the power will be restored shortly. The out of state crews
are really working hard.
