Lone Drake Waterfowl Outfitters - Hunting Reports

Well, it's been a warm November so far, but things have been pretty steady. Thanks to the rain holding off more, we're seeing more crops come out and the mallards are starting to stick around more.

We still have some openings for the last couple weeks of the season and we are also filling up for the Spring Snow season pretty fast! Give us a call!

Oct turned out to be a great month of duck hunting. We had many limit hunts and very few slow days. The lowest day was 9 ducks. The rain became a little annoying at times but other than that it was a really good month. There was a couple of days were we shot our limits of ducks and caught our limits of walleyes by 1pm. It’s hard to beat that! The mallards are just starting to move in. We had a couple of flocks of 50-100 lock up and sail in at the sound of the call. A sure sign that they had just arrived.

The first two weeks of the season have been very good. On opening day we killed a six man limit and for the most part we have been limiting out on the majority of the hunts. The bag has consisted of roughly 50% green-wing teal along with widgeon, gadwall and a few shovlers. So far we have killed very few mallards. But..I expect that to change shortly. It’s that time of year when the mallards start moving down. Hopefully it drys up some so the farmers can get in the fields and pick the corn. I still have some weekday opening during Oct. We are just about a week or two away from the peak migration!

Good news and bad news! The good news is that my scouting run was very successful. Looks like it is going to be another great year. The bad news is that it does not appear the "Live Internet" duck hunt will be taking place. It is out of my hands. I did everything that I was supposed to do. Sorry about this. No one is more disappointed than I am. Live and learn I guess.

It was a great summer, but now it is time to park the bass boat and roll out the duck boat. I just want to talk about bass fishing one last time before I move 100% into hunting mode. My last four tournaments went ok. Ron and I finished in the money on our last two and we ended up in 2nd place for team of the year. It’s good…but not what we were striving for. I had a fair showing at the year- end Silverado tournament and then a great day at the Silverado championship. Unfortunately for me...one other angler had an even better day. I brought in a 6 fish limit that weighed 21.41 pounds and he had 21.62 pounds. First place was a brand new ranger boat valued at $30,000 and 2nd place paid $1,500. That’s about a $9,000 per ounce! But... that how things go.

I am going to spend the next week doing some intensive scouting. I have found that it is better to wait to scout until right before the season starts as the ducks are always looking for new food sources that were not even around a month ago.

I still have a couple of weekend days open during the month of Oct. The live internet duck hunt through www.oasisoutdoors.com is still on. I will post up next week to give more info…specifically what time we will be starting.
