We set up in a hot field that had probably 5,000 - 10,000 birds in it the night before, but very few of them showed up the next day. We called it quits at 11:00 with 10 birds. It could’ve been better, but it also could’ve been a lot worse.

High winds seem to keep the birds grounded for a good part of the day. As luck would have it a few loaded up just 1 ½ miles down wind from us. We did get one group of migrates in at about 10 yards, but otherwise it was kind of slow most of the day. We ended up with 18.

The morning was a bit brisk and the birds were not committing to that easy to kill range. We opened up on them, burnt a lot of shells, and ended the day with 29. It seems that the birds are rapidly moving North. Still not a lot of juvies, but I suspect with the low hatch rate there probably won’t be much of a late season juvie migration.

Snow filled decoys made for a lack luster spread, but we were able to scratch down 14 by 10:30 am. Hopefully that was the last of the major snow storms in South Dakota.

Another excellent day! A fair number of juvies showed up and we ended the day with 43 geese.
